CATTLE IN TRUCKS

Poor cows, poor sheep,
I weep, I weep
To see you packed so tight;
While nought you know
Of where you go
By empty day and night.

Such noise, such heat,
Such weary feet,
No single thing you know.
No rest, no grass,
Only alas!
Your friends as scared as you.

I wish, I wish,
O how I wish,
That you could understand
That all is well;
You go to dwell
In some far pasture land.
