Pare Lorentz
Pare Lorentz (December 11, 1905-March 4, 1992), born Leonard MacTaggart Lorentz in Clarksburg, West Virginia, began his career as an author and critic but is best known as an American film director. He was the director of the United States Film Service from 1938-40, and produced documentary films including The Plow That Broke the Plains (1936) and The River (1938 film), the latter of which won a Pulitzer Prize for its script. He was a close friend of author John Steinbeck. He died in Armonk, New York.
